In-vehicle cameras, in combination with telematics, are emerging as the holy grail for the modern commercial fleet industry. As a crucial tool to prevent road accidents, ensure fleet safety, and improve driver and passenger experience productivity, resource, and performance enhancement tool, video telematics provides an unprecedented level of visibility and analytics to fleet operators, ushering in a whole new paradigm marked by innovation and efficiency.
Systems Technologies is a chief enabler of this new, feature-rich paradigm of video telematics.
A leading provider of in-vehicle cameras, recorders, and fleet management software, Systems Technologies has redefined the way vehicle risk is analyzed and mitigated with its best-in-class video and data solutions for an array of vehicles, including vans, tow trucks, school buses and utility vehicles. The company collaborates with fleets, insurers, and telematics service providers to identify, record, and report crucial driving data in real time.
How it all began
Systems Technologies’ safety devices were born out of the need to extend the application of dashcams into the commercial fleet industry. It was not until the 1960s that dash cams were used extensively in US police cars to combat traffic violations. Since then, dash cams have become more widespread as they are inexpensive and compact.
Recognizing the growing demand, Jeremy Simpson, President and CEO of Systems Technologies, saw an opportunity to replace conventional, cheap, unreliable dash cams that were vulnerable to tampering with better, more efficient devices. Systems Technologies began working with various product manufacturers to design equipment with commercial fleet owners in mind.
“Ever since the foundation of Systems Technologies in 2000, we have been pushing the boundaries of in-vehicle cameras, which were initially available exclusively for cars. Our products are marked by high performance, cost-effectiveness, secure design, and potential for seamless integration,” says Simpson.
Today, Systems Technologies caters to first responders and a range of industries, including commercial trucking, heavy construction, concrete and ready mix, waste and recycling, school and public transportation, field service, and taxi.
Taking Safety a Notch Higher
Systems Technologies accompanies its product lineup of connected cameras with REST API to integrate its solutions with GPS tracking, RFID, telematics, and fleet management software. Its video telematics solution captures everything happening on the roads and inside vehicles, providing a detailed description of any incidents of theft, assaults, or altercations.
Clients can use the videos as evidence to take legal action against offenders. With these high-resolution cameras, which can be integrated with clients’ existing tracking/telematics software, the company can record and analyze vehicle speed, location, and driving routes.
The company’s video telematics solution also supports facial recognition capability, which scans the driver’s face, recognizes it, and helps fleet managers determine who exactly the driver was at the time of an accident.
Systems Technologies uses motion sensors in its solutions to prevent theft and vehicle tampering. When an intruder enters the vehicle, the sensor alerts them to exit. If they do not leave, lights flash, and horns honk, forcing the intruder to exit the vehicle. Besides, the company’s RFID readers that are installed on pupil transportation vehicles enable students to scan their identity cards when they board the vehicle. With this, parents are given access to a portal where they get real-time updates when the child is picked up and dropped off.
Through the Child Check-Mate System, a unique alarm that acts as an electronic reminder, Systems Technologies enables drivers to ensure all children have safely disembarked the vehicle upon completion of a route. The alarm is activated when the engine ignition goes off. Drivers can deactivate the Child Check-Mate system by walking to the back to the back of the vehicle after their duty while checking the interior to ensure no child is left behind.
Systems Technologies’ integrated solution comprising video telematics, GPS, RFID readers, and motion alarm has produced exceptional results for clients by improving driving behaviors, discouraging bullying among students, and reducing liabilities in pupil transportation.
We believe technology is the foundation of driver safety and the key to reducing risks and making roads a safer place
One of the nation’s largest pupil transportation companies tremendously reduced the number of children being accidentally left in vehicles by using the integrated solution.
A Reliable Solution for Drivers, Insurers, and Employers
Systems Technologies’ products help monitor the fleet companies’ most valuable assets, drivers, vehicles, passengers and cargo. while recording crucial evidence from all important road events. The solutions are designed to address the challenges faced by insurers, drivers, and employers.
By leveraging geofencing, Systems Technologies helps employers track their vehicles in real-time by using the GPS signals from the vehicle tracking device to pinpoint location and mark the limit of an area. If the drivers cross the geographical circumference set by their supervisors, the system sends out an alert to the driver's supervisor notifying them that their vehicles are either leaving or entering the defined geographical zone.
A driver report card encompasses details pertaining to driving behavior like speed, sharp turns, as well as a vehicle’s journey history. Employers can analyze the report card and educate and train drivers to ensure safe driving behaviors.
For insurers, System Technologies’ products are proven to reduce accident frequencies, loss ratios, increase fuel economy, and help drivers defend against false driving offense allegations. They also help mitigate whiplash/personal injury claims against drivers while acting as a security and theft deterrent. Using Systems Technologies’ products can turn into a massive cost advantage for employers and drivers as they can accelerate insurance claims processing and significantly reduce premiums, and insurers benefit by reduced claim frequency and easy validation of claims for accuracy. The Systems Technologies team has reduced claim frequency by 17 percent, the number of disputed claims by 98 percent, and the overall risk by 39 percent.
System Technologies also delivers significant benefits to drivers. With the rise of congested driving conditions, crimes inside and outside vehicles, and the number of pedestrians contributing to drivers’ risk, installing the company’s camera systems results in safer roads for all. For example, a cab driver can use Systems Technologies’ alarm to input triggers, connect it to taxi meters or doors, and transmit video recording any time a fare has begun or when an individual enters the vehicle. Additionally, the driver always has access to a panic button that can be used to initiate a video recording. These features, paired with video, audio, GPS, and G-Sensor data, provide all the information required to settle any traffic dispute swiftly.
“We believe technology is the foundation of driver safety and the key to reducing risks and making roads a safer place. By understanding clients’ unique requirements, we customize all our solutions and provide instant alerts for idling, engine faults, battery levels, camera and vehicle tampering,” says Simpson.
Always in Clients’ Good Books
As a partner of choice, Systems Technologies offers such tailor-made solutions to clients by following a consultative approach. However, Systems Technologies’s responsibility does not end with that; after deploying and implementing solutions in clients’ vehicles, the company provides users with adequate training to use the solutions in a more efficient way.
Through Systems Technologies’ fleet management portal, users can unlock various features, including playing videos of on-road incidents and tracking the speed and movement of vehicles. They also receive mileage and activity, overdue maintenance, and other reports to service their vehicles systematically.
