In the wake of a worldwide emphasis on climate change, electrification of transport is a subject that has drawn unwavering attention over the last decade. But although electric vehicles have been gaining massive popularity, most buyers still remain hesitant. The biggest reason is that charging EVs is a slow, timesapping process as they generally take at least half an hour to get adequately charged at the fastest charging stations. The underdeveloped infrastructure in some regions also has a big impact on the even longer charging times. Such prolonged waiting times turn away potential EV buyers, leaving them reliant on gas-burning vehicles. Cognizing this persistent challenge posing a threat for electric vehicle adoption in the near future, Switzerland-based BRUGG eConnect is developing and manufacturing a premium line of fast-charging cables for electric vehicles. “With our fast charging cables and plugs, we reduce charging time to less than 10 minutes and thus promote the acceptance of electric vehicles,” says Patrick Kern, CEO of BRUGG eConnect.

Maximum Power that offers the Highest Safety

Backed by a legacy of 125 years of excellence in the cable industry, BRUGG eConnect is a leading manufacturer of fast charging solutions that enable e-mobility solution providers to facilitate the most efficient and safest EV charging infrastructure in the industry. With dedicated expertise in Engineer to Order (ETO) cable design, BRUGG eConnect develops and produces charging cables and connectors that can charge EVs in less than 10 minutes as compared to hours and are also resistant to hydrolysis, microbes, UV rays and ozone. The company’s line of non-cooled charging cables under the purview of PURWIL Connect 500 can offer peak currents up to 500 A without cooling. On the other hand, The PURWIL Connect 850+ cooled system, supplemented with an external cooling unit, can deliver DC electricity at 1,000 volts and up to 850 amps. The cables are highly flexible and lightweight, allowing users to handle them without any hassles.

In addition to its array of world-class charging cables, the company also has a pair of cutting-edge charging plugs on the plate that are setting new touchstones in particularly tough conditions.
The CCS2 Classic connector, with an ergonomic shape, is easy to use, maintenancefriendly, and is IP67 certified. Alongside, the CCS2 Compact Charging Connector stands out due to its robustness and safety. It is the only plug in the world that is certified with the highest protection class of IP69, offering a supreme level of protection against ingress of dust, high temperature and high-pressure water. The connector’s exceptional resistance has even been put to the test through several practical experiments where the plug’s housing which has been injected with thermoplastic polyurethane—has remained undamaged even after it was dropped on the ground several times or driven over by a truck! This means that nothing stands in the way of safer and faster charging anymore.

Against this backdrop, it goes without saying that the fastest and safest charging stations in Switzerland are using BRUGG eConnect’s fast charging systems for their facilities. EVTEC—a Swiss manufacturer of fast charging stations that boasts of the most powerful charging station in the world with a charging capacity of over 384 kW—has been regularly deploying fast charging systems from BRUGG eConnect to guarantee maximum security for all end users.

World's First Fast Charging Station for e-Boats

In harmony with the cables and system solutions for the automotive industry, BRUGG eConnect is also aware that e-mobility is rapidly developing across other modes of transportation. This is highlighted by the fact that their charging plugs are used in the world’s first fast charging station for E-boats in Norway, hailed as the EV capital of the world. With a charging rate of 150 kW, the company’s high-performance and waterproof cable and plug system is being used to charge boats at the harbor of Floro on the country’s rugged west coast, where the colder temperatures and the contact with water pose a challenge for e-mobility. This innovative project is now believed to boost the construction of more EV charging infrastructure throughout the Norwegian coast. “As ferries and other marine vessels go electric, we will continue to play an active role in the development of megawatt charging systems (MCS) in order to swiftly power larger battery packs requiring higher charging rates,” says Kern. Kern also sees potential in other areas: "Already today, electrically powered commercial vehicles such as e-trucks, but also electrically powered airplanes are in use - and the trend is rising. We want to help shape this development."

Moving ahead, BRUGG eConnect is planning to diversify and widen its client base as the company keeps adding new products to its portfolio. At the same time, the company also wants to expand into the new markets, such as America, market, citing the uptake of EV adoption following President Biden’s approval of Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that is meant to build out a national EV charging network that would make EV charging accessible to all Americans. Meanwhile, the company will continue future-proofing the automobile industry with its innovative solutions and keep contributing towards the global cause of building a greener tomorrow for the upcoming generations.
